Why are some banks more important than others?
What are Systemically significant Banks
In each country, some banks, due to their size of operations and
interconnectivity, become very significant to the banking system and the
wealth. The collapse of these large banks can have terrible things on
the nation’s monetary system. Therefore, their continual functioning is
necessary. Such banks are called Systemically Important Banks (SIBs). A
country’s central bank (RBI in India) is tasked with the responsibility
of identifying such TBTF institutions.
